About the Artist
Melanie Corrigan has more than 20 years’ experience making pottery. From hand-building to wheel-throwing to tile-making, she does it all in The Crooked Pot hayloft studio in Clarkston, Michigan, where she also teaches public and private hand-building classes.
The Crooked Pot sources Michigan-made stoneware clays from Runyan Pottery Supply and uses a variety of studio-made and commercial glazes. All works are handmade, glazed and fired by Melanie in her studio.

Hand-building
Coiling, pinching and slab-building are used to create all manner of pieces from bowls, mugs, platters, vases and more. Stoneware clay pieces are carefully dried, bisque-fired, glazed and then fired to vitrification, making the ware food-, dishwasher- and microwave safe.
Wheel-throwing
Functional wares such as bowls, tumblers and vases are carefully hand-thrown. After trimming, pieces are dried evenly, bisque-fired, glazed and then fired to vitrification. All functional pottery at The Crooked Pot is food-, dishwasher- and microwave safe.
Tile-making
From simple subway tile to custom designed tiles, all tiles are handmade. Large slabs are rolled and then cut to size, after which any texture is applied with tools by hand. Distressed 4×4 tiles are made by reclaiming studio clay, which is then hand-pressed into plaster molds.
